Know someone who needs a Gift of Energy?

Posted by Bob Zahn

Maybe I'm gift-giving challenged, but as a We Energies employee, I have been giving gifts of energy to family members for years. Perhaps the recipients are just being polite, but they all seem to appreciate the credit to their bill -- especially because it arrives during the heating season -- and because they already have enough slippers.

I like to give gifts that are useful and practical, and who doesn't need energy? OK, it's not the most fun gift, but it does help operate things that are fun -- TVs, game systems, audio systems, computers and so on. And the gift card doesn't require wrapping -- another plus for me. So, I will be giving some gifts of energy again this year.

If you are considering a Gift of Energy, just go to our website and click the button for 'Purchase a Gift of Energy.' You will go to a third-party site that will accept your credit or debit card to buy the card, which can be mailed to you or the recipient. Be aware that fees apply for processing and delivery options, which go to the vendor we contract to provide the service. None of the fees go to our company.

The standard fee is $2.95, but a personalized option is available for an extra dollar, which is worthwhile because you can include a personalized message and photograph you submit for the card -- and it's simple to do. Here's a short video showing an example of a personalized card:

Another gift you might consider this holiday season is a donation to the Keep Wisconsin Warm Fund, a statewide, nonprofit organization that helps provide heat and power for thousands of families in crisis.
